Blue Sky Pilsner won best Lager, Blue Sky Wheat Beer won best Ale and FNQ Lager won best over-all beer in the People’s Choice Award. These awards are extremely important to us as they follow up the awards won at the 2011 Royal Queensland Show where FNQ Lager won ‘Champion Lager’ with a whopping 46 points out of a maximum score of 50.

Beer festivals Australia wide are seeing a wider and more varied array of patrons in attendance. Men and women of all ages flock to these annual festivals and are exposed to newer and broader markets each year.

The Fox Hotel felt it was time to change up the traditional idea of an Australian beer festival and launch it’s very own Annual Australia Day Beer Festival. The inaugural festival will see Hope Street, the laneway running alongside  The Fox Hotel, being closed off completely and will be where the festival’s at! Stalls will line the far side of the street, facing the pub, making way for more seating, standing and drinking room. The aim is for a ‘festival’ vibe for  the day, reflected in the layout of the festival and the entertainment provided.

The Fox Hotel is endeavoring to put on an event that not only reflects what our customers want, but also the wishes of our Brewers. It’ll be user-­‐ friendly and accessible, offering a higher level of commitment and  determination to keeping the day on what it’s all about…the beer!!

A ‘BIG’, Beer with lot’s of everything thrown in, look for a Mocha flavour from the large amount of roasted chocolate malt added to this one. A Brewer’s dream.

Team FNQ Lager finished 18th outright and 8th in class. At the 4th rider change the team placed 4th outright and garnishing plenty of coverage and commentary. The team unfortunately become victim to a $1 part failure when the valve stem failed whilst traveling down the main straight and the rider Dean Von Schill arrived at turn one with no air in his front tyre. He fought the bike through a dangerous high speed crash of approximately 220kph but gathered himself and bike and arrived back at pits with a battered body and bike.

The Team went to work and lost 43mins repairing the bike. As competitors this was disappointing for the team however all this drama and action in the pits created a lot of interest in the Team, and we are informed that this will feature heavily in the edit on Fox sport! The team re entered the race after losing 23 laps and in a true show of competitiveness managed to claw back 4 places. More impressive was the fact that from the moment they reentered the race Team FNQ Lager were lapping faster than position 5 & 6. Team FNQ Lager indeed managed to get back 2 laps on these teams throughout the course of the afternoon.

Media were very interested in the fact that the Team was able to rebuild the bike and return to be competitive. Made all the more interesting as most bikes are parked up after turn 1 crashes as it is the fastest on the circuit. Not to mention the gallant effort by Dean to return to race after medical attention and ride his best times for the whole weekend. Each of our riders were interviewed throughout the day. Speed also did a snippet on the Team at the start of race whilst the bike was still looking pretty. Marcus completed the interview with the bike , new helmet and ample signage in full view.

In addition to this FNQ Lager was the product of choice throughout the whole event due to the distribution of the provided cases on practice afternoon. After Team FNQ Lager qualified in the Top 10 Super Qualify the whole of pitlane was teaming with people holding FNQ Lager in hand. We provided the cases with the suggestion that they could return the favour from our sponsors by ensuring FNQ Lager made it on to the podium just in case Team FNQ Lager didn’t. As it turned out Team FNQ Lager had circumstances decide that fate for them but Team Cessnock’s racer Phil Lovett obliged by thanking FNQ Lager whilst their whole team were holding your product in hand on the podium before they had even bothered to thank their own sponsors.

Team FNQ Lager gathered in the pits after a successful completion of the marathon event. The team was proud to have finished in the face of adversity but in the knowledge that we were competitive enough to have done greater things. We have all committed to this event for next year and can’t wait to see Team FNQ standing on the podium in 2012.

The Australian 8 Hour Endurance Championship will be packaged into a two-hour television program,to be broadcast on  SPEED, Sunday, January 8th 2012 at 8pm AEDT.
